Dave Grohl Performs With LA Philharmonic During His Surprise Appearance At Coachella

During weekend two of Coachella, Dave Grohl surprised the crowd on Saturday (April 19) by joining conductor Gustavo Dudamel and the Los Angeles Philharmonic for orchestral renditions of Foo Fighters' tracks "The Sky Is a Neighborhood" and "Everlong." This marked Grohl's first public performance of Foo songs since the rock legend revealed last fall that he had fathered a child outside his marriage. Dudamel and LA Phil’s star-studded set also featured guest appearances by the Oscar-nominated Wicked actress Cynthia Erivo, who joined the orchestra for a soulful cover of Prince’s “Purple Rain.” Other special guest vocalists included Natasha Bedingfield, Laufey, and Argentine duo Paco Amoroso and Ca7riel, which followed weekend one guest appearances by Becky G and LL Cool J, who all helped make the LA Philharmonic’s first Coachella appearance a memorable experience during Dudamel’s final year as music and artistic director.

Kendrick Lamar Makes History As First Musician Ever Featured In A Gatorade Commercial

On Friday (April 18), Kendrick Lamar became the first musician to be featured in a Gatorade commercial, as he took part in their new “Lose More. Win More.” ad campaign. The Pulitzer Prize-winning rapper delivered a motivational speech in the clip that is set to his track "Peekaboo," a standout on his chart-topping album, GNX. The commercial includes appearances by athletes like Luka Dončić, Jason Taytum, A’ja Wilson, and Caitlin Clark. “How much are you willing to lose?” Lamar asks at the start of the commercial, before recounting the company’s storied history with the University of Florida football team, with the ad closing with a  sweat-covered image of Kendrick's face. Gatorade's Chief Brand Officer Anuj Bhasin said the company chose to pair with Lamar “because of his mindset of hard work, resilience and pushing boundaries.” Lamar triumphantly kicked off his Grand National Tour with SZA on Friday night in Minneapolis, with the duo set to perform 39 stadium shows across North America and Europe throughout the spring and summer.

Jin From BTS Announces His First-Ever Solo Tour

Only days after announcing his forthcoming new album, Echo, BTS member Jin has unveiled plans for his debut solo world tour, the  #RUNSEOKJIN_EP.TOUR, named after his YouTube variety show Run Jin. The tour will hit nine cities throughout the summer, including a series of eight shows in the U.S. in late July at arenas in Anaheim, Dallas, Tampa, and Newark, with each city hosting a two-night stand from the K-pop superstar. The run of shows will start in South Korea and Japan before heading to the U.S., with the tour set to wrap up in London and Amsterdam. Echo is set for release on May 16, and according to the record’s press release, it “showcases his versatile vocals across a spectrum of moods and styles. It reflects a deeper layer of vocal maturity and personal storytelling that underscores Jin’s evolving artistry.”

Lil Nas X Hospitalized Due To Partial Facial Paralysis

On Monday (April 14), Lil Nas X shared an Instagram video from a hospital bed revealing he's experiencing a mysterious case of partial facial paralysis. The Grammy-winning musician did not disclose the cause of his ailment, but he maintained a positive attitude despite the scary ordeal. “I can’t even laugh right, bro,” Nas said while showing off his lopsided smile, revealing more of his paralysis via his Instagram Stories. The "Old Town Road" hitmaker eventually making a request of his fans, “Stop being sad for me! Shake ur ass for me instead!” The rapper later provided an update that he had returned home after a short stint in the hospital, and he eventually regained some movement in the right side of his face. Prior to this incident, Nas had been busy at work on his upcoming album, Dreamboy, and is scheduled to headline the Outloud Festival in Los Angeles this summer alongside Lizzo and Kim Petras.

In a new interview with The Australian, Midnight Oil drummer Rob Hirst revealed that he has been battling pancreatic cancer for the past two years. The 69-year-old musician, who co-founded the celebrated Australian rock band, shared his diagnosis publicly for the first time while opening up about the ongoing medical treatments he has been receiving. Hirst was diagnosed with cancer six months after Midnight Oil wrapped up the Australian leg of their 2023 farewell tour, and he’s been receiving constant medical care ever since. “So it’s ongoing,” Hirst told the publication. “I’ve had pretty much every treatment known to man – every scan, ultrasound, MRI. I’ve kind of had ‘the works.’” Hirst hopes to raise awareness about pancreatic cancer, while emphasizing the importance of early detection. “Coming up to two years, I thought I just need to get this, literally, off my chest,” Hirst explained. “If you do have any of that kind of symptom, just go and get a simple blood test. It could be life-changing, and life-extending.”

Katy Perry Journeys Into Space During Successful Blue Origin Launch With All-Female Crew

Pop superstar Katy Perry and CBS Mornings anchor Gayle King were part of an all-female crew who took part in a space voyage on Monday (April 14) aboard Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin spacecraft. The New Shepard rocket took off at 9:30 a.m. ET from the company’s West Texas launch facility, and eventually reached a height of over 62 miles into the atmosphere, allowing the passengers to experience moments of weightlessness and stunning views of Earth. The autonomous rocket then landed successfully, bringing all its passengers safely home, which included Bezos’ fiancé Lauren Sánchez, engineer Aisha Bowe, activist Amanda Nguyen, and producer Kerianne Flynn. Perry sang Louis Armstrong’s classic, “What a Wonderful World,” during the flight, saying, “It’s not about me. It’s not about singing my songs. It’s about a collective energy and making space for future women. It’s about this wonderful world that we see right out there and appreciating it. This is all for the benefit of Earth.” Perry and King both kissed the ground after the safe landing.

On Friday (April 11), Lana Del Rey surprised fans with the release of the twangy lead single, "Henry, Come On," from her upcoming 10th studio album. Zak Starkey Is Back In The Who, As Pete Townshend States He’s “Not Being Asked To Step Down”

After The Who publicly announced that they had parted ways with their longtime drummer Zak Starkey last week, Pete Townshend reversed course in an Instagram post on Saturday (April 19), confirming that Starkey is still the drummer in the band. “News Flash! Who back Zak!,” Townshend wrote. “Zak is not being asked to step down from The Who. There have been some communication issues, personal and private on all sides, that needed to be dealt with, and these have been aired happily.” Following a rocky performance at Royal Albert Hall, Townshend stated that Starkey is not being asked to step down but rather work on his drumming style to better fit the band's current sound. “Roger [Daltrey] and I would like Zak to tighten up his latest evolved drumming style to accommodate our non-orchestral line up and he has readily agreed,” wrote the guitar legend. Starkey, the son of the Beatles icon Ringo Star, took to Instagram to share a photo of Townshend embracing him, with the caption, “V grateful to be a part of the who family Thanks Roger and Pete xx.”

Little River Band Co-Founder, Roger McLachlan, Dies At Age 71

Little River Band co-founder and original bassist Roger McLachlan has passed away at the age of 71 after battling pancreatic cancer. McLachlan, born in 1954 in New Zealand, was known for his musical talent and significant early contributions to the band. He initially joined the group after an agent mentioned they were looking for a bass player, and he went on to play a crucial role in their success, including their Top 30 hit song, "It's a Long Way There,” from 1975's Little River Band. "I arrived for auditions and they start playing and singing and I am pinching myself, because I can't believe how good these guys are,” McLachlan told Riveting Riffs magazine about his try-out. “The rest is history. It just kind of clicked straightaway." McLachlan originally left the group following 1976's After Hours, but he rejoined the band in the late ‘90s. McLachlan had a notable career outside of Little River Band, performing and collaborating with a variety of groups while remaining active in music until his passing. He was also part of 2009's induction class at New Zealand's Southland Musicians Club Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame.

The Who Part Ways With Their Longtime Drummer Zak Starkey

On Wednesday (April 16), the Who announced that they have decided to part ways with drummer Zak Starkey after nearly three decades in the band. The decision comes just three weeks after the drummer performed with the Who during two shows at London's Royal Albert Hall. Starkey – son of the Beatles' drummer Ringo Starr – joined the Who in 1996, and appeared on albums like 2006’s Endless Wire and 2019’s Who, while performing live with the group for nearly 30 years. “The band made a collective decision to part ways with Zak after this round of shows at the Royal Albert Hall,” said a representative for the band. “They have nothing but admiration for him and wish him the very best for his future.” Starkey was clearly shocked by the news, releasing a statement saying he was “surprised and saddened” by the announcement, adding, “I’m very proud of my near thirty years with The Who. Filling the shoes of my Godfather, ‘uncle Keith’ has been the biggest honor and I remain their biggest fan. They’ve been like family to me.“

The news was confirmed by Hamrick during a recent interview with Paris Match, who disclosed that they have actually been engaged for "two or three years." Despite their happiness in their current life, Hamrick is uncertain about a formal marriage. “Maybe one day we’ll marry, maybe not,” said the 37-year-old former ballerina and choreographer at American Ballet Theatre. “We are so happy in our current life that I would be too afraid to change anything.” The couple, who have been together since 2014, share an eight-year-old son named Deveraux Octavian Basil Jagger, frequently featured on Hamrick's Instagram. Original Beatles’ Drummer Pete Best Announces His Retirement From Performing

Pete Best, the original drummer of The Beatles who performed with the band in the early 1960s, has announced his retirement from appearances and performances due to what his daughter calls “personal circumstances." News of Best’s retirement was revealed on X on Saturday (April 5) by the drummer's brother, Roag Best, who shared a photo of the musicians together. "Well what an absolutely wonderful ride we’ve had. However, everything comes to pass,” he wrote. Pete shared Roag’s post, and wrote, “I had a blast. Thank you.” Best, who is often referred to as the "fifth Beatle," made his debut with the band in Hamburg, Germany and was later replaced by Ringo Starr. Despite the harsh circumstances of his departure, Best reflects on his time with the band with no regrets. "I think I’m a lucky guy,” he told The Irish Times in 2020. “I’m very proud of what I’ve achieved as a person, of the examples I’ve set to people to get on with your life, to pick yourself up."

During The Who's recent two-night stand at London’s Royal Albert Hall, frontman Roger Daltrey gave the audience an update about his current health status. “The joys of getting old mean you go deaf. Kevin Cronin “Disturbed And Hurt” By Being Excluded From REO Speedwagon Hometown Reunion Concert

Kevin Cronin will be absent from the REO Speedwagon “retrospective” reunion concert in the band’s hometown of Champaign, Illinois on June 14th, citing a scheduling conflict with his current solo tour with Styx. The charity concert will feature founding member Neal Doughty, bassist Bruce Hall, early REO drummer Alan Gratzer, guitarist Steve Scorfina, rhythm guitarist Mike Murphy, and original frontman Terry Luttrell, with proceeds benefiting cancer research. In a Facebook comment, Cronin – who replaced Luttrell as REO’s frontman in 1972 – said: “I am being asked to participate in an event on a date when I can’t possibly be there in-person. I am deeply disturbed and hurt by all of this. After all I have done to help build the legacy of REO Speedwagon, I feel I have earned and deserve to be included in any event honoring that legacy. Instead, I have been knowingly excluded.” This absence comes after reported rifts caused the band to stop touring, with Cronin forced to be billed as a “former lead singer/songwriter” on his upcoming tour with Styx.

Judas Priest and Alice Cooper Announce 2025 Co-Headlining Tour

On Tuesday (April 15), Judas Priest and Alice Cooper announced that they are teaming up for a highly anticipated co-headlining tour of North America. The hard rocking run will hit 22 cities from late summer through fall, beginning on September 16 in Biloxi, Mississippi, and concluding on October 26 in Houston. North Carolina heavy metal legends Corrosion of Conformity will join the tour as a support act for all dates except the September 18 show in Alpharetta, Georgia. Artist presale for the tour starts on Wednesday (April 16), with general on-sale beginning on Friday (April 18). The tour news followed the passing of former Judas Priest drummer Les Binks, who was a pivotal member during his short stint with the band and was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2022. While Judas Priest recently released their 19th album, Invincible Shield, Alice Cooper is set to head off on a solo Too Close for Comfort Tour this summer in support of his 2023 album, Road.
