Almost Monday
The Van Buren (Phoenix, AZ)
October 23, 2026
Almost Monday took over the Van Buren stage on Friday night and the packed venue couldn’t get enough.
The indie-pop band from San Diego with a nearly sold out tour blessed Phoenix with their pop tunes and feel-good vibes. Selling out some of the biggest venues of their career so far during this tour, and most of their song streams in the millions, almost monday is a band we won’t be able to get enough of for years to come.
With a jam packed setlist, featuring hits from their newest album, THANK GOD IT’S ALMOST MONDAY, and songs like can’t slow down, which was the band’s first Billboard #1 on the Alternative Airplay chart, the energy never simmered down. Vocalist, Dawson Daughtery, danced, sang, and wowed the crowd all night. Daughtery’s lyricism follows his experiences in life, touching on loss, love, memories… even his vision problems, and the band finds a way to twist these stories and emotions that could be a dreary tale into something powerfully moving that makes you want to dance. There was the quirkiness of the lyrics that mixed with the way the band owns the stage and puts on a performance that makes you leave your worries at the door. The crowd was friendly and welcoming, no judgement while everyone expressed themselves freely to the songs.
Opening band, Rec Hall, made sure to get the crowd dancing and pumped for almost monday. With a curtain draped across the stage, plummeting down to reveal the tour name written across, fog filling the room, and the lights pointed at the stage, the venue filled with cheers. The introduction of a band before getting on stage being so beautifully designed and dramatic sets the mood for the show and we were blown away from start to end. The band came out with a very naturally rockstar-ish feeling where you can just sense the energy and happiness through their performance. With some songs, like jupiter, focusing solely on the instrumentals during extended periods, the bassist, Luke Fabry, and guitarist, Cole Clisby, were able to rock out and keep the crowd going while Dawson danced around the stage, rolling his wrists around with his mic held in the air, absolutely feeling the music to his core. The stage presence this band brought to Phoenix was refreshing.
Despite being a newer, on the rise band, almost monday knows how to put on a show. With bubbly beats and lyrics that you can sing along to, I won’t be surprised when this pop band starts selling out larger venues following their next album. almost monday’s performance is one you shouldn’t skip out on if you like dancing the night away to bright, sprightly songs.
