Genre-bending duo Calamity Jane is set to release their brand-new single, “Playing With Fire,” featuring Jake Fisher, on October 3, 2025.
Produced by Brad Hill and Lee Holland, and written by Lucy Cantley and Camille Rae, “Playing With Fire” is a candid exploration of temptation, honesty, and the delicate line between fantasy and reality. The song tells the story of two people who feel an undeniable spark, even though they’re already committed to someone else. It acknowledges the pull of attraction while ultimately choosing loyalty and integrity over fleeting passion.
Founded by violinist Lucy Cantley and powerhouse vocalist Camille Rae, Calamity Jane fuses classical roots with a bold, boundary-pushing take on Bluegrass/New Grass, crafting a sound that is both timeless and daringly modern. Their artistry has redefined the New Grass space, blending precision musicianship with unshakable authenticity.
Calamity Jane first made waves with their breakout cover of “The Devil Went Down to Georgia,” a release that earned widespread traction and even a personal nod from the late Charlie Daniels himself. Since then, they’ve built an impressive momentum on streaming platforms, reaching up to 120,000 monthly Spotify listeners and earning placement on coveted editorial playlists including Grass Roots, New Grass, Fresh Finds, and Wild Country. Today, they continue to connect with fans across 30,000 monthly listeners and beyond, staying true to their lane in the bluegrass and new grass space.
The duo has also proven themselves on stage, performing alongside artists such as Maddie & Tae, Diamond Rio, and Keith Anderson, and carving out a reputation as one of the most compelling live acts in the genre.
With “Playing With Fire” featuring Jake Fisher, Calamity Jane delivers another genre-defying moment — a track that burns with precision, passion, and raw energy, showcasing both their musical chemistry and their refusal to play it safe.
“True to our namesake, we’ve never wanted to fit into one box,” says the duo. “This song represents that freedom — it’s us leaning into the fire and embracing the sound we’ve been building toward.”
“Playing With Fire” will be available on all major streaming platforms on October 3, 2025.
About Calamity Jane: Classically trained musicians Lucy Cantley (fiddle) and Camille Rae (vocals) are redefining the New Grass genre with a blend of technical mastery and authentic Appalachian soul. Their music, deeply influenced by bluegrass tradition yet unafraid to push boundaries, has earned consistent support from Spotify, with features on premier editorial playlists including All New Country, New Grass, Grass Roots, and more. After viral success on TikTok, the duo chose to step back from the fast pace of social media to focus on what matters most—live performance, genuine connection with fans, and creating timeless music.
